Activity Level
    A good level of fitness is essential for you to undertake walks in hot conditions and over rugged terrain with uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces. Some walks will require you to clamber over large boulders up to one metre high.  On some of the more challenging walks at Bell Gorge, Mitchell Falls and Piccaninny Creek, you’ll be accompanied and assisted by two expert APT guides.  This tour contains some longer, more challenging walks.  Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Broome
Arrive in Broome and be transferred to your hotel. Discover all that Broome has to offer or relax on Cable Beach as you enjoy your day at leisure. There are a number of poignant sites to visit in this historic pearl diving town. Take in sunset over the Indian Ocean as you enjoy a Welcome Dinner.

Day 2. Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Gibb River Road
Leaving Broome, travel inland towards Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre-long natural tunnel carved through the Napier Range. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters that fill the tunnel’s winding path through the mountain and emerge on the other side to the sight of a stunning oasis. Continue to Windjana Gorge where sheer cliffs tower above glistening white sands. Admire the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls and scour the banks for a glimpse of the freshwater crocodiles that laze on the shores of the Lennard River. Travel into the King Leopold Range Conservation Park, then arrive at Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge. Your tented cabin’s private deck is the perfect spot to relax in the stunning natural beauty.

Day 3. Bell Gorge, Hiking and Swimming
Back on the Gibb River Road, head to the incredible Bell Gorge, where stunning cliffs surround a series of spectacularly tiered waterholes. Sitting approximately 300 metres above sea level, Bell Gorge is an idyllic natural spot for swimming and photography. Take a relaxing dip above the cascading waterfall that feeds the lower pool or go bird-watching. If you are feeling energetic, perhaps hike to the lower pool of the gorge for a swim or perhaps visit some superb lookout spots.

Day 4. Galvans Gorge, Manning Gorge, Drysdale River Station
Travel through the heart of Kimberley cattle country to Galvans Gorge, where a short walk leads to a picturesque waterhole. Admire the rock art adorning the gorge walls or indulge in a leisurely swim. Continue to the beautiful Manning Gorge where you can spot local bird-life as you enjoy lunch in the shade of a boab tree. Later, arrive at Drysdale River Station, a unique property.

Day 5. Mitchell Plateau, King Edward River, Bradshaw Art Gwion Gwion
Travel up the Kalumburu Road towards the isolated Mitchell Plateau. Explore the Wandjina and Gwion Gwion art galleries. The Kimberley’s rock art is arguably some of the world’s oldest, with evidence suggesting the earliest occupation in the region dates back 50,000 to 60,000 years ago. Swim in the clear waters of the King Edward River. For the next two nights, stay at our Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge located at the top of the plateau.

Day 6. Mitchell Falls, Helicopter Flight
Discover Mitchell Falls, a true highlight of your Kimberley adventure. Where possible, a local Indigenous guide will join you, providing a unique insight into the region. Begin with a hike to Little Mertens Falls to view rare Aboriginal art. Continue on to Big Mertens Falls before arriving at Mitchell Falls. Take a dip in the river before enjoying a helicopter flight over the spectacular Mitchell Falls back to the vehicle. Alternatively, hike back with your guide.

Day 7. Gibb River Road, El Questro Wilderness Park
Rejoin the Gibb River Road as you ford the Durack and Pentecost Rivers where saltwater crocodiles inhabit the deceptively calm waters. Travel to El Questro Wilderness Park, a one million-acre property of rugged wilderness in the heart of the Kimberley. Stay two nights immersed in nature at Emma Gorge Resort.

Day 8. El Questro Wilderness Park
Discover the amazing wonders of stunning El Questro Wilderness Park today. With a local ranger, embark on a cruise along stunning Chamberlain Gorge, a fresh waterway fringed by tropical vegetation and rugged escarpments. After lunch, head to the beautiful Zebedee Springs, a permanent natural thermal spring tucked away in a secluded pocket of rainforest. Return to Emma Gorge for dinner.

Day 9. Purnululu National Park
Journey deep into Purnululu National Park, a spectacular wilderness region that is home to some of the country’s most striking geological formations. Travel the Spring Creek Track and discover the magnitude of Purnululu for yourself. Hike to the awe-inspiring Echidna Chasm, a spectacular natural cleft in the rock. Narrow in width with walls reaching 100 metres high, Echidna Chasm is a must-see in the Kimberley. Continue on to APT’s award-winning Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge, located in the heart of the serene Purnululu National Park. Tonight, enjoy dinner in the open air.

Day 10. Purnululu National Park
Walk along Piccaninny Creek as it winds through the high walls of the Bungle Bungle domes. Your next stop is the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge, a spacious cavern reaching skyward, where the acoustics are astounding. Marvel at the majestic beehive domes as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. You may like to experience an optional scenic helicopter flight over the range own expense. This evening, enjoy sunset drinks as the sun sets over the Bungle Bungle massif.

Day 11. Ord River, Lake Kununurra
Travel to Kununurra, which is the gateway to the eastern Kimberley and the home of the Ord River Scheme. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your resort.

Day 12. Northern Territory, Nitmiluk National Park
Cross the border into the Northern Territory on the way to Nitmiluk National Park. This evening, enjoy canapés and drinks on arrival at the beautiful and multi award-winning Cicada Lodge. Afterwards, sit down to indulge in a superb dinner showcasing the region’s finest local produce. This incredible dining experience is guaranteed to be a highlight of your holiday.

Day 13. Katherine Gorge, Kakadu National Park, Yellow Water Billabong
Step aboard an unforgettable Katherine Gorge cruise. Your guide will reveal the region’s magical highlights. Discover the music, stories and ways of the local Jawoyn people. Continue to Kakadu, Australia’s largest national park that covers an enormous area of 20,000 square kilometres. The Northern Territory’s best known national park is rich in flora, wildlife and beautiful scenery. Cruise the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Here, wildlife abounds and local a guide will give you great insights into how the Bininj people use the flora and fauna to support their way of life. Later, arrive at Hawk Dreaming Wilderness Lodge, located in a restricted area of Kakadu National Park. Tonight, enjoy dinner as you take in the beautiful surrounds.

Day 14. Arnhem Land, Hawk Dreaming, Cannon Hill
Accompanied by a local guide, cross the East Alligator River into the magical and spiritual Arnhem Land. Experience the ancient art and natural beauty of a region that is normally inaccessible to most travellers. This afternoon, return to Kakadu and enjoy the art and billabongs of Cannon Hill and Hawk Dreaming. Please note, order of touring may vary. Arnhem Land may be inaccessible for cultural reasons or when tides prevent the crossing of the East Alligator River. Later this evening, gather around to share anecdotes with your fellow travellers in the midst of this pristine wilderness, before enjoying a delicious dinner at your wilderness lodge.

Day 15. Guluyambi Cruise, Ubirr Rock Art, Darwin
Located within the world-renowned wilderness region of Kakadu National Park, visit the site of Ubirr and explore its galleries of ancient Aboriginal art. The magnificent rock faces have been continuously painted and repainted since 40,000BC, with most created approximately 2,000 years ago. Later, take an unforgettable Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River. As the evocative landscapes glide by, your local Indigenous guide will explain the colourful culture and intriguing history of this stunning region. Learn about the beautiful birds, prehistoric reptiles and fascinating mammals that call this spectacular and timeless land home. Afterwards, travel to Darwin this afternoon and indulge in a Farewell Dinner. Tonight, take some time to reminisce about the amazing adventures that have just gone by as you say goodbye to your fellow travellers and expert Driver-Guide.
